Tuesday, July 21, we were treated to a fantastic display right outside the Trailhead House at Summer Star. For much of the afternoon, several ruby-throated hummingbirds were feeding on the flowers directly in front of the front entrance to the Trailhead House. We were able to comfortably observe them from the window in the gallery without disturbing them. In addition to the hummingbirds, we witnessed a whole family of eastern bluebirds bathe in a puddle below our rain chain. The family included an adult male and female, as well as three young that looked to have only fledged within the past few days. We suspect the family of bluebirds may have a home on one of the nearby farms and hope they become regular visitors to Summer Star.
